Hi there. This is Cassie Laymon, with Beacon Wealth Consultants. Today, I am thinking about the competition that we have between busyness and getting things done, and focusing on the most important things.
Recently, my husband and I consolidated our households. So we’re finally living in one place and then I also sent my son off to college. I really expected this to be a season of leisure – maybe even boredom. I’m not finding that to be true at all. My time has gotten filled up. I will just tell you, if there are 14 things on my list to do, I tend to do the things that are easy or fun, because I like to check those things off. The things that are the most important don’t always get addressed.
Recently, Rick asked me, “What are your biggest goals that you’re focused on, from now until the end of the year?” I think he thought I would have this bucket list of fun activities, but I said, “I want to make healthier choices, and I want to make really good money decisions, both in the business, and personally.” I just want to be a good steward of everything that we’ve been given. Isn’t that really what we all want to do?
When we think about our money and specifically about our investments, everyone I talk to says, “Yes, I would really like to invest in companies that align with my values, and companies that are seeking to be a blessing to others.” But, there are these roadblocks to taking the next steps. Probably one of them is busyness, right?
When we are looking at our list of things to do … You know, when you think, “Oh, I have to get my statements out, or find them, or actually open them up and send them somewhere for somebody to take a look at those.” I mean, it just feels like a hassle. It’s not necessarily fun. I just want to encourage you that, if that’s something you’ve been thinking about for a while, this is a great time for us to help you look at the things that you’re investing in, just so you know about it.
When it comes to busyness, for me, I always think about Luke 10:41-42, where Jesus says, “Martha, Martha, you’re worried and troubled about many things, but only a few things are important, maybe only one. Mary has chosen the good thing.” Of course, God is the good thing. We really, want to honor him and all that we do and be great stewards. I want you to join me as we’re getting towards the end of the year and picking one or two ways that you can really honor God and be a good steward this year.
If you have questions, certainly that are financially related and they’re something we can help you with, don’t hesitate to email us at service@ beaconwealth.com. If you’d like to learn more about the kinds of companies you are currently invested in, or the kinds of great companies you could be invested in, we would love to help you out with that. I hope you have a very blessed day, and a strong end of the year!
